Michael Debruyne

Flight of 24 Jun 2013

About me

My name’s Michael. I’m 40 and I love space. It all started on a visit to the Kennedy Space Center. The Discovery shuttle was on its launch pad. Since then, I’ve tried to understand and learn how everything works, from the shuttle to what the astronauts feel. I took off in several shuttles before they were taken out of service, and I had to go a step further, on zero-gravity flights, which I did three times.

Testimony

How would I describe a parabolic flight? You feel light. It’s like being a child again. It was unique, impossible to put into words, and it made me an astronaut for a day. Laughter, surprises, moments of wonder. I’ve been on three flights and done dozens of parabolas and all I can say is: “I want to do it again and again and again.”
